Saints Euthymius, Ignatius & Acacius: Holy New Venerable-Martyrs of Athos
trans. Isaac Lambertsen
Each member of this holy trinity (united in spirit, sharing the life of the Holy Mountain, but unrelated in their lives and deaths) bore witness in the hostile environment of Muslim-occupied lands in the early nineteenth century to the holy Faith. Each paid for his “crime” by following in the footsteps of Our Lord, to his own Golgotha. Each prepared for his martyr’s death by prayer and repentance, embracing it willingly and by no means accidentally. Each calls us, even now, to lives of repentance and preparation, to bear witness in lands occupied by the powers “of this world”, no matter what the cost.
