Spiritual Portrait of St. John of Kronstadt
This remarkable testimony to the life and witness of a father and saint so “modern” and yet so timeless that he could, even now, be one of our parish priests (were we worthy of such!), was originally published over many issues in Orthodox Life many years ago. The text was so singular in its use of English that we sought, in vain, for a Russian original (and someone to retranslate it). If such ever existed, no one at Holy Trinity Monastery ever knew of it; the text was revised by one of Fr. Constantine’s brother monks, who chuckled at his work as he visualized the author’s determination (valuable testimony even now to the genuine missionary spirit which has always underlain the life of the Church) to express himself in a “foreign” language, so that readers of the English-language publication on which he labored for so many years of his life, might come to know the saint he so deeply loved. Richly illustrated, including many rare photos of St. John.
